THE FIRST DANCE

At first impression it’s a film about the dance SALSA; lively, cheerful, exhilarated, light footed. On a more profound level questions concerning integration and identity are being raised. Now, as Europe is rapidly changing into immigrant societies, we can intensely observe and experience, how much our own cultures are going to be mixed with the immigrants’ cultures. No other dance expresses the mix of the cultures so significant like SALSA.

Auf den ersten Blick ist es ein Film über den Tanz SALSA. Vergnüglich, lebensfroh, leichtfüßig. Auf einer tieferen Ebene geht es um Fragen von Integration und Identität. Gerade jetzt, wo Europa unverkennbar eine Einwanderungsgesellschaft geworden ist, werden wir mit Spannung verfolgen können wie stark sich unsere Kulturen mit den Kulturen der Einwanderer vermischen wird. Kein anderer Tanz bringt diesen Mix so stark zum Ausdruck wie SALSA.
